Pierre chamber awards $1,000 Learn & Earn scholarship

Angel Lorenzen selected as the 2025 scholarship winner

Pierre, S.D. - The Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce announced current DWU student Angel Lorenzen as the recipient of this year’s $1,000 scholarship for the DWU Learn & Earn Program in Pierre. Lorenzen, a Pierre resident, is enrolled in DWU's fourth Learn & Earn cohort, set to graduate in December 2025.

A certificate presentation was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce to recognize Lorenzen’s achievement. In attendance were members of the Pierre Area Chamber's DWU Learn & Earn scholarship committee; chamber staff; Visit Pierre staff; DWU Learn & Earn program coordinator and assistant professor; Lorenzen and her parents.

“We are thrilled to support Angel in her academic and professional journey,” said Elizabeth De Alba, communications and event specialist at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce and DWU Learn & Earn 2023 graduate.

The scholarship reflects the Chamber’s commitment to supporting the education and professional development of future business leaders within the Pierre community. It also aligns with the Chamber's commitment to recongizing Loyal2Local, a local initiviate to strengthen the Pierre and Fort Pierre communities.

The DWU Learn & Earn program, located at the Capital City Campus in Pierre, provides students with hands-on experience through paid internships which build skills and connections; ultimately strengthening the local workforce. Learn & Earn students also spend time in the classroom learning about business practices, and are paired with a student success advisor. At the completion of the 16-month program, Learn & Earn students earn professional certifications and an associate degree.

The Pierre Area Chamber invites other organizations that value education and community investment to join them in supporting DWU Learn & Earn emerging professionals; and to consider contributing to the program’s growth or offering internship opportunities.

“This scholarship is part of our ongoing effort to invest in local professional development and ensure a thriving business community for years to come,” De Alba said.
