Frequently Asked Questions
Why a 100% online degree from Dakota Wesleyan University?
As a regionally accredited, faith-based, private institution located in Mitchell, South Dakota, DWU provides a strong foundation toward helping students like you discover your strengths. Our online programs create an experience that ensures you reach your goals and find success. Committed professors, small class sizes and our core values of learning, leadership, faith and service combine to enable you to reach your personal and professional growth.
Who will teach the online courses?
Online students are taught by some of the best-known faculty in their fields. Most students develop strong relationships with their instructors. We often hear stories of how students credit those relationships for helping them have a successful online education experience.
Is financial assistance available for online students?
Yes. At DWU, our goal is to help make your education accessible and affordable. If you are taking online-only courses, you may be eligible for federal and/or state aid if you are seeking a degree at DWU. You’re encouraged to work with a financial aid adviser to develop a funding plan that meets your needs.
What are the computer requirements for online students?
Our courses are compatible with Mac and PC platforms. Your admissions counselor can help verify that you possess all necessary software requirements to facilitate your studies in our online programs. In order to sign up for our online classes, you should have regular access to the Internet and email, as well as be familiar with creating, formatting, and attaching Microsoft Word documents.
Can you tell me which (if any) of my previous courses will transfer?
Absolutely! At DWU, several of our online programs offer generous transfer credit policies that allow you to earn your degree faster and more affordably than ever before. Once you submit your application and send in your unofficial transcripts, we will complete a preliminary transfer credit evaluation.
Will I have scheduled time for online courses?
At DWU, all online courses are asynchronous. Your course is conducted according to a schedule outlined in your course syllabus, but there are no “live” classes to attend. Instead, lectures, coursework, and discussions all take place at your convenience, allowing you to choose when and where to work on your studies. There may be times when you are asked to conduct a live chat with either a professor or classmates, but they will occur on a case-by-case basis and will always be clearly defined in your course syllabus.
