DWU's Stark lecture to enlighten attendees on The Saint John's Bible

DWU will offer the annual Stark Lecture on Thursday, April 3, in the Sherman Center at 11 a.m.

MITCHELL – Dakota Wesleyan University will offer the annual Stark Lecture on Thursday, April 3, in the Sherman Center at 11 a.m.

This lecture will feature Tim Ternes, Director of The Saint John’s Bible and the Director of Hill Museum and Manuscript Library Programming at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn.

Ternes joined HMML in 2004 to manage HMML programming and the Bible’s national touring exhibition program. In 2010 he transitioned to full-time support for The Saint John’s Bible, the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey in more than 500 years, as the project was being completed in 2011. Since 2016, Ternes has overseen programming support for HMML and continued as The Saint John's Bible director.

The Stark Lecture brings to campus religious leaders, authors, educators, activists, politicians, journalists and entertainers who are living examples of the biblical message.

Dr. Franklin C. Stark graduated from DWU in 1937 and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from DWU in 1959. Dr. Stark endowed the Stark Lectures to bring the stories of those who are “living examples of the truths of the Biblical message” to campus. Through his gift, DWU has welcomed numerous speakers of national stature. Presentations have demonstrated the authenticity of the connection between faith and works.

This lecture will be held as part of DWU’s regular weekly chapel service and is free and open to the public. The presentation will also be livestreamed at dwu.edu/live.

The McGovern Center at DWU will offer two more events this spring. On Monday, April 7, a panel discussion on “Immigration & Deportation Impacts on South Dakota will be held at 7 p.m. “Voices of Resilience: Immigrant Stories of Hope, Struggle and Triumph” will be held on Monday, April 14. Both events will be in the School of Business, Innovation and Leadership Room 117 at 7 p.m. and will be livestreamed at dwu.edu/live.
