MItchell—Dakota Wesleyan University’s Sioux Falls LPN-B.S. program will hold its annual Nursing Pinning Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Sherman Center on the DWU campus.

Twenty students will receive their pins as part of a traditional ceremony to recognize their graduation from the 28-month program.

Keanna Thesenvitz, Sioux Falls, will be the student speaker. Several faculty members and DWU administrators will participate in the ceremony.

A pinning ceremony is held for new graduates from a nursing program who receive a pin to commemorate their accomplishments, like a medal of excellence. The history of the pinning ceremony has ties to the 12th century and the Maltese cross symbol, and normally is given to those going on as a registered nurse or continuing their education in nursing. Family members are welcome to these ceremonies and often are selected by the graduates to do the actual pinning.

The ceremony is open to the public.
