OverviewOur Peer Assistant Program was created to help new TRiO student’s transition to college by providing assistance with
 navigating the DWU campus, faculty, and staff and the expectations of college level learning. TRiO Peer Assistant are successful junior and senior students.

The TRiO Peer Assistant Program is CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. Peer Assistant attend a two day training to learn more about campus and community resources and build mentoring skills such as: ethics and the role of the mentor, boundaries, establishing rapport, questioning and listening skills, and confidentiality.

  • Connecting new mentees to campus and community resources
  • Introducing mentees to faculty, staff and students at DWU
  • Bringing mentees to campus events and club meetings
  • Helping to invest in TRiO resources
  • Allowing the opportunity to discuss academic challenges and develop strategies to overcome them
  • Assisting with effective study habits and skills
  • Providing a quicker adaption to the college environment
  • Personalized advocacy for college success
  • Answering everyday questions about college life
