Associate of Science LPN-RN Sioux Falls

The department of nursing will be accepting the last class of nursing students into the Associate of Science LPN to RN nursing program in fall 2015 with slated graduation date spring 2016.
An LPN to BS nursing program will begin in fall 2016.

General Information
DWU offers an Associate of Science (AS) Degree in nursing which satisfies the academic requirements necessary for a graduate’s eligibility to write the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) for licensure as a registered nurse. Because this LPN-RN curriculum in Sioux Falls is a one-year (August – May) program designed to build on the firm foundation of nursing skills mastered by the licensed practical nurse (LPN), the goal is to move the student’s knowledge of human health needs and nursing interventions to a deeper level. In addition, within this one academic year, the program content is designed to develop leadership and management of care skills needed by the registered nurse (RN) in the current healthcare practice setting.

The nursing curriculum uses Roy’s Adaptation Model and builds upon the three nursing roles (provider of care, manager of care and member of a profession) of the associate degree nurse and the four major concepts of person, health, environment, and nurse.

Nursing classes will be scheduled two to three days per week and this will include a clinical day. Classes will meet at Southeast Technical Institute (STI) in Sioux Falls. Clinical rotations will be scheduled by nursing faculty members when clinical sites are available for specific nursing courses. Clinical rotations may require some travel by students.

The DWU Nursing Program is approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc., 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326; phone: 1-404-975-5000; fax: 1-404-975-5020; Web site:
