Virtually 100 percent of DWU students receive some form of financial assistance with a significant number receiving merit, talent or athletic scholarships as part of that financial assistance.
Students who apply and are accepted for admission will be considered for academic scholarships based on their high school GPA and standardized testing scores (ACT/SAT). College transfer students are also eligible for scholarships based on previous college GPA.

For Transfer Students
- Institutional aid (scholarships, awards and grants) may not exceed the cost of tuition at Dakota Wesleyan University in any given year.
- Any student receiving a minimum of $12,000 in institutional aid is required to live on campus.
- First-time freshman scholarships or awards may be increased if the student’s GPA or ACT/SAT score increases before March 1 of the student’s senior year. Questions can be directed to the admissions office.
- Scholarship money awarded to new students attending the Huron Campus will not exceed $12,000 in any given year.
- Scholarships and awards are offered to full-time students, and most scholarships or awards are renewable for up to 10 semesters. Most Dakota Wesleyan University students complete their schooling in eight semesters.

These awards range from $4,000- $12,000 based on previous academic performance.
Member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society are eligible. Verification of Phi Theta Kappa chapter membership by a chapter adviser is required. Awards given up to $2,000.
Competitive Scholarships Available

Must attend to compete for the Randall Scholarship and McGovern Legacy Scholarship.
Randall Scholarships, the highest academic award at Dakota Wesleyan University, have been awarded for more than 25 years. Randall Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to academically successful high school seniors who display a strong talent for leadership and service. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and 24 ACT or 1090 SAT to compete. A current leadership resume must be submitted; attendance at one of the Scholarship Days is required and a personal interview will be conducted. A limited number of Randall Scholars will be named each year.
McGovern Legacy Scholarship
George McGovern graduated from DWU in 1946, and he was the university’s most famous alumnus. Created by the Friends of McGovern ’72 Campaign, the goal of the McGovern Scholarship is to honor the late senator and presidential candidate, as well as the 1972 presidential campaign volunteers, while educating and inspiring future generations of student activists to volunteerism and public service. The McGovern Legacy Scholarship is a prestigious and competitive scholarship awarded to an outstanding high school senior who demonstrates exemplary leadership and service to her/his local, regional or global communities. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and 24 ACT or 1090 SAT to compete. Those competing must submit a current leadership and service resume with personal references; attendance at one of the Scholarship Days is required and a personal interview will be conducted.
Presidential Leadership Scholarship
Presidential Leadership Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to academically successful high school seniors who display a strong talent for leadership and service, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and 21 ACT or 980 SAT score. A current leadership resume must be submitted; attendance at one of the Scholarship Days is required, and a personal interview will be conducted. A limited number of Presidential Leadership Scholars will be named each year.
Bishop Leadership Award
An award of $14,000 is available to a high school senior United Methodist student who demonstrates strong commitment to youth leadership in their local church and pledges to be active in student ministry at DWU. The applicant must be a member of a United Methodist Church and have a 3.0 GPA and 21 ACT. A current leadership resume must be submitted; a letter of recommendation and a faith statement are also required. Attendance at one of the Scholarship Days is strongly encouraged, and a personal interview will be conducted. A limited number of Bishop Leadership Award recipients will be named each year. This award is renewable.

Students must be a confirmed member of the United Methodist Church for at least a year. Certification form
United Methodist GBHEM and the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation Scholarships
Funded through the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation. Applicants must have been an active member of The United Methodist Church for at least one year. These Methodist Scholarships do NOT automatically renew each year. Eligibility and application requirements can be obtained from the DWU financial aid office.
For Athletic, Music and Theatre Students
Awards are determined by coach or director, and audition or other assessment may be required in order to determine the student’s award. Please visit with the respective coach or director. These awards are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students.
