The DWU Department of Business and Economics offers programs designed to provide an understanding of disciplines needed for organizational management and their relationship to life in our world.  The programs give special attention to the problems of managing small and medium-sized organizations, both profit and nonprofit, and provide students with an applied academic program that emphasizes leadership, innovation and responsible stewardship.  The programs are based on the philosophy that the best way to develop the creative problem-solving skills needed for careers in organizational leadership is to combine solid exposure to a broad liberal arts program with selected technical courses related to organizational management.

The department’s programs all exhibit several distinctive characteristics:

  • Classes are small enough to facilitate individualized attention from the faculty.
  • The curriculum is designed to enable you to develop a customized program within a broad framework for acquiring basic understanding and skills.
  • The faculty have experience with both teaching and related nonacademic jobs which enables them to assist you to understand how concepts and skills learned in classes can be applied in a wide variety of settings.
  • Graduates are prepared to provide leadership in a wide variety of organizational settings, but especially in small business and nonprofit management.
  • You will have a variety of opportunities for out-of-class learning experiences such as such as internships, trips and service projects
